My classroom library is the most important part of my classroom. It it where my students come together to read and discuss books and develop a love for reading. Students who excel at reading become more successful in life.
My students have a special place in my heart.
They are energetic, and their love for learning and reading grows every day. I love watching them come in every morning. They are eager to unpack, just to snuggle up with a book. They love taking books home from our library every night. The next morning, they tell me all about the adventures they had with their book.
My Project
In Reader's Workshop, students are expected to read 20-40 minutes a day. Access to interesting books of various reading levels is a must in keeping adolescents engaged in reading for that long of a time. My dream is for students to struggle to make a book choice, not because there is not anything they want to read, but because there are so many books they want to try.
This project will improve my classroom library and the lives of the many children who pass through my doors for years to come.
Students will have access to classic children's books, such as Henry and Mudge or Little Critter, that we all loved as we grew up. These books could be used as read-alouds to introduce students to new topics. These books can also be used across the curriculum to enrich their learning and give examples of writing to help them strive to become better writers themselves.
