My Students

Where do you like to sit and read your favorite book? How do you like to feel while you are reading? Do you like finding your books easily? In my classroom I want to create that place! A place where my students love to read!

My students are amazing citizens.

Some of my students come from extremely tough households and I take pride in that their 6 hours with me each day need to be the best 6 hours of their entire day. The school that I work at is in budget crisis and the money that we do have isn't allotted to changing the aesthetic atmosphere of the school. Thus, I have taken it upon myself to change my classroom into a home for my students. I want them to have pride and ownership in our classroom and their learning. I feel that if they feel like school is a home they will feel safe and do their best to succeed in the hours that they are with me.

My Project

As a younger teacher I have experienced numerous grade changes and I haven't received adequate materials for the change, especially in reading. This year I have worked hard in reading to get each of my students to grade level, however I feel that my system for organizing my books is lacking. I know that with these tools I can create a classroom library where my students are able to use the classroom library independently. As well as will create a curb appeal that will entice all my students to want to use the library. Moreover, I spend lots of time teaching my students about 'just right books'. Books that are their independent reading level-books they need to read in order to succeed. With these organization tools they will be able to access these 'just right books' more effectively. Also the purchase of the reading seats will allow me to distribute my children during reading time. With a small classroom and high class size I will be able to use areas of the classroom more effectively.

My students are some of the hardest working 1st graders and I believe that every moment of the day has to be used efficiently.

My students have to many factors working against them outside of the classroom. I need those precise 60 minutes of reading workshop to be fun, efficient and full of a love for reading.
