I am the lucky teacher of 120 very enthusiastic middle school students in a low-income community. My students have an array of abilities and interests. I had the honor of teaching many of these students in prior years. This gives me an advantage that I am looking forward to cultivating.
My school strives to provide an academic program in a caring and supportive learning environment emphasizing Literacy, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics tailored to meet the needs of our students.
Scope Magazine will work wonders with my students by keeping them engaged. This magazine has current event articles, colorful photographs and illustrations. Scope Magazine is designed to support the Common Core Standards, students will be introduced to a variety of articles featuring informational, narrative, debates, etc. These articles will provide academic and domain-specific vocabulary to help students develop and reinforce vocabulary.
Scope Magazine also provides differentiation of their text and offers complex text accessible for all readers.
Text is presented at a lower Lexile and there are audio versions of featured articles. Activities are also offered at different levels. After reading the engaging articles, my students in will have the opportunity to write rigorous and authentic writing tasks to demonstrate their understanding of the article.
As in the past, I have seen the Scholastic Scope magazine capture my students’ interest, provide opportunities to demonstrate mastery of skills and ultimately help them improve their reading scores.
