Reading Styles Materials for Second Grade Inclusion Classroom

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students need to read. In my second grade classroom, students read every day. Some students struggle with reading. I want them to acquire the love of reading.
I teach this through the use of Marie Carbo Reading Styles. The children are inventoried to discover how best they read and learn. They then read text at their appropriate level. The students are given a tape recorder and headphones with the text read on tape. The students may then listen to the tape as many times as necessary to gain mastery of the material while tracking with their finger. The student then reads orally to me. I question the student to determine comprehension and understanding. The student completes brief questions over the text or is directed to listen to the tape again to reach mastery.
Since I teach in a second grade inclusion classroom in a large urban school system, this allows ALL students to read and learn at their individual level. I need to replace tape recorders and headphones since they are used often. I also need batteries for the tape recorders and blank tapes to record the text upon. I want to continue using Reading Styles by Marie Carbo in my classroom to help all of my readers experience the joy of the written word. Thank you.
