We're a highly sought after neighborhood school that serves families from all types of backgrounds. We have students that wake up each day knowing they're loved and will be well cared for, and we have others who aren't so fortunate.
Our kids come in every shade of the human rainbow and embody all that is beautiful about childhood.
We have kids with learning and emotional disabilities, kids living in poverty, kids who are identified as gifted, kids we love. We meet each child where he or she is, and we support them as they grow into the individuals they are meant to be. They are special and unique individuals but not without their challenges.
My Project
We all can benefit from learning by example, and my students are no different. As I'm teaching my fourth graders new reading strategies, it's important for me to be able to show my students what I'm talking about. This carefully curated collection makes it easy for me to do that.
Students are eager to learn when the subject matter captures their attention.
This collection of mentor texts has been selected to do exactly that, while also providing text that skillfully showcases specific reading strategies.
Typically, we will read a text together learning a strategy; then, students will practice the strategy by reading a variety of additional texts. This collection of texts, selected by reading education expert Jennifer Seravllo, beautifully showcase how readers can apply their newly acquired reading skills.
