My students need differentiated resources to build their reading comprehension skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in the south side of Chicago serving about 99% of African Americans. Many students receive free/reduced breakfast and lunch and come from a low socio economic status. My school was fortunate enough to win a grant for personalized learning and students will now have 1:1 computers with amazing online resources to use. Since my school is heavily focused on balanced literacy and with limited resources (not online) for small groups, it makes it difficult to meet the needs of all the students.

Students at my school are excited about learning and have so much potential.

They are very responsible and hold themselves to high expectations. Providing them with as many resources to use will help them be exposed to different types of strategies to become better readers and prepared for their future.

My Project

These reading cards will help my second and third graders practice their reading skills to become better readers. They will be able to develop reading strategies such as: key ideas and details, and craft and structure. They will also have practice responding to reading. These products include different levels to differentiate students. Also the different levels will help challenge students and expose them to more rigorous texts.

Students will build their reading comprehension skills with high interest texts provided in these products.

They will get exposure to fiction and nonfiction with a variety of genres! Since these reading cards allow students to write on them, it will help students interact with their reading.
