My Students

Think about stories that make up our lives. Do you have favorite stories that you remember, that resonate with you still? If you think about the people, places, and spaces that come with those memories, hopefully, those come with positive and comfortable feelings towards hearing stories at school.

This school has a wide cultural and linguistic demographic that impacts the skills and experiences the students have with school and the English Language.

These students are eager to be heard and to share, yet they need motivation to value and take responsibility for their education. They are eager to experience life both in and outside of the classroom.

My Project

Our classroom is set up in tables made up of desks. However, we have open areas that the students like to make spaces to be comfortable while working. However, these open carpet spaces could do with a little more comfort. Having the bean bag furniture to make one of these spaces a special area to work or read is one way that students can use this resource. Also, I would like to create an area during rotations that we can do mini lessons with our new writing curriculum.

A small percentage of the students in our classroom have any type of passion for reading.

This donation will hopefully improve the attitude towards an activity that will benefit all kinds of skills attached to proficient and consistent readers. Having a comfortable space will help students to start to view reading time as a positive and desirable part of their time in the classroom.
