Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first grade teacher in East Palo Alto, CA. My classroom is comprised of 20 Hispanic children. In addition to math and writing, I am dedicated to teaching my students how to read and instilling in them a love for literature. I would like to expand my classroom library with new big books. My students will be excited by fiction and nonfiction big books. Big books offer a fun twist to a read-aloud because of their size. During a read-aloud, as a class we would make predictions, I would model decoding skills, we would use highlighter tape to point out sight words, capital letters, periods, etc. I am very excited to share this love of literature with my students. These books will help build their reading skills and their love for reading. Thank you for your help!
