Our classroom is not equipped with a class library OR a class set of books. In order for students to get the full benefit of taking a literature class, they need the opportunity to read a book as a class!
My students consist of hard-working 14-16 year olds in the state of Oklahoma.
Our school is fairly small, but we are dedicated to getting a "big time" education! Reading this book together as a class will help my students develop an appreciation for books and a broader vocabulary. In addition, I hope it will introduce my students to a whole new genre of literature that may spark a deeper appreciation for reading.
As it is, my students have NO access to a class set of books! By adding this set of books to our classroom, we will be able to have whole class discussions over the text. These discussions will allow my students to develop a greater understanding for that book, and for literature in general. We will be able to read books at a faster pace, because every student will have a book, and can take it home for homework, if need be. This, in turn, allows my students to read even more books throughout the year than anyone thought possible!
With the wide array of technology available to students these days, traditional books are often put on the back burner.
It is even more rare that students read classics such as Fahrenheit 451. Your donation will help freshman students in small-town Oklahoma re-discover the wonders of literature!
