Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach 8th grade English and one section of 8th grade AVID. I have 25 to 30 students in each class. 83.7% of students at my school are socioeconomically disadvantaged and 25.7% are English language learners, but they come to school eager to learn.
Getting students engaged in reading novels of their choice and participating in literature circles based on these novels is how we create a community in my classroom and provide these blossoming students with an opportunity to express their unique voices and learning experiences.
My students are fascinated with graphic novels, and I can't seem to stock enough.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
