My Students

“There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all.” Jacqueline Kennedy. My first graders face many hardships. I know when I see them working together or independently while figuring things out, it is exactly the learning I want to happen in our classroom. Free to be who they are and want to be.

My first graders live in a poverty area and attend public school.

Most of them live with one parent, a grandparent, or another family member. They enjoy coming to school because it is a safe, comforting and happy place to be. They are the happiest when they are fully engaged and in charge of their learning, without judgment.

My Project

A listening center will help increase my students listening and reading skills. Both skills are essential and practiced daily in first grade. They are the foundation for the years ahead of them. These audiobooks are student-friendly, of high interest, and favorites among my classroom children. They will also help my students with fluency and comprehension. The most important part is they definitely build confidence within themselves to become better lifelong learners in and out of the classroom. A listening center is one strategy that aids in raising student reading achievement. It is also one that makes my students excited about reading.
