My students are from a small community in Northern California. They are amazing kids from working class families. Like most kids in 2nd grade, they love school! They are motivated, driven and are eager to succeed.
My students work so hard!
We are a close community with lots of family involvement. I have 25 students and as the year progresses, it is amazing to see them come together and support and motivate each other. As a teacher, I strive to meet my students where they are academically and to support and encourage the celebration of diversity present in our school.
My Project
I want my readers to have books in front of them! I have chosen six high interest titles to engage my readers in meaningful instruction throughout 2nd grade. At this age, many readers are just on the verge of becoming independent chapter book readers. Some are ready, but not quite sure of themselves.
Allowing students to have a copy of the text in front of them promotes independence while still supporting those who need it!
I have seen many students grab the next book in a series after a class read aloud. I have also noticed students pointing out grammatical examples and spelling patterns while reading! Good readers become great writers! It is my goal to provide them with opportunity to reach their reading AND writing potential.
From fiction, to biographies, to other nonfiction topics, these titles will help my students to become life-long readers and writers!
