My students need guided reading books and supplies to help them excel in reading. During this time kids will work in flexible groups reading interesting books at their instructional level.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is a mixed group of academically gifted, English as a second language, and regular education students. Most come from split homes and have little support at home, many do not even speak English at home. 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. They also have parents who have little education beyond high school. In third grade they are still eager to learn and read, and are just beginning to enjoy reading chapter books. I need to capitalize on this love of reading now!
My Project
Students will use these resources to pick interesting, current titles to read at their instructional level. Current titles and choice enables children to read engaging text relevant to them and the world they live in now, while having a variety of things to read. This is important to allow students to feel like they have a say in their education.
Students will be engaging in literature circle discussions, using post it notes to mark areas of focus for their discussions.
These marked spots will allow students to interact with the text and share their ideas within their group. Discussing text is a great way to get kids engaged in higher order thinking.
