My students need a variety of non-fiction sources of reading. Scholastic News provides real world information about fascinating topics that students love to learn about. Non-fiction text can be challenging but Scholastic News makes it enjoyable!
I teach at a Title I, K-6, elementary school. Many of my students come from low-income, single-parent, and/or foster parent homes. Some students do not know where their next meal may come from. Fortunately, my school provides the entirety of our students with free breakfast and free lunch daily. Due to the many struggles that these students' families encounter, it is certain that academics do not take the front seat. My 2nd graders are eager, hard-working, and motivated. It is my job as their teacher to fulfill their educational needs with exciting and interactive lessons that keep them wanting more from their school experience!
Scholastic News makes challenging non-fiction text come to life for the students. They learn about so much in the real world and are able to access topics that they otherwise would not. Scholastic News teaches to the Common Core State Standards so it aligns with district curriculum. Students always look forward to reading it, applying what they learn, and testing what they learn with the online tools and games. Learning comes to life with Scholastic News and the students look forward to the new topics each week. It has been a tool my students have benefitted from for years and look for ward to using again.
