"Always caring. Always positive. Always learning." That's the motto of my school, and those are words we practice each day. Our school is located in a very rural area of our county, and many of our students come from homes with very little. Many do not even have internet access in their homes.
The majority of our students are on free and reduced-priced lunch and we are a Title I school.
Our building is one of the oldest buildings in the district with the original sections being built in 1956. Despite everything, our students come to school each day, eager to learn, and their efforts can be seen by the work displayed in hallways. Many can be seen participating in various activities in the school such as chorus and quiz bowl, and they devour new books as soon as I get them.
My Project
Since we are such a small school, we really do not receive much of a budget to purchase new books for our library compared to the larger schools in our district. I want the students at my school to have the same opportunity to read new books. Research proves that reading is the foundation of learning.
We really need more fiction titles to further encourage the students' love of reading.
The majority of the books contained in the list are all notable books recognized by the Association for Library Service to Children. There are some other high-interest books which my students requested on multiple occasions.
