My students need books on their reading level to further push their reading. They also need a bookcase to have a place to display all of these wonderful materials.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you have any idea what it is like to have children who want to read but you have to tell them you don't have anything else to give them?
My students are the most wonderful 2nd graders I have ever met.
They are the top class in a NYC Public School and they just LOVE to read. The push themselves everyday to try their best and work their hardest. Unfortunately being in a public school it is not always the easiest to get more materials into the classroom.
My Project
I have tried to make my classroom the best resource I can for my students, but there is only so much I can do. I am asking for donors to donate money for leveled books and a bookshelf to store them because in our curriculum students are constantly reading books on their associated reading level. Since students need to read on their specific level. There is a constant need and discussion about trying to share books between my students and already we are running out because my students are all on the same reading level. Receiving more books will allow my students to further push themselves as readers, allow for more book talks in which students can discuss the books they have read, and overall make reading much more accessible to my students.
My students love to learn and I want them to continue to love school everyday and love reading everyday.
I want to continue to keep the fire lit under them, but when they are constantly reading the same books I fear their fire will burn out!
