Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Please help us learn how to read with new and exciting books. We would also love pocket charts to show case the new words we are learning.
We are a class of sixteen wonderful 2nd grades.
There are twelve boys and four girls. The school is a Title 1 school with 89% of the students receiving free lunch. Most of us do not have access to books or the Internet.
Our class is made up of children with a wide range of learning styles. Many of us have a learning disability or a speech impediment. We love to learn! We love to read!
My Project
I have requested a range of books from some elementary classics like Judy Blume to the new and hip Fly Guy by Tom Arnold. I have also requested pocket charts as to support our word work and vocabulary development. We will use these books for both read aloud (story time), independent reading, and pleasure reading. Students will be able to take these books home. This will be NEW and exciting to many of the students, since they typically bring home teacher made books or ratty library books. Having access to read at night, will help to inspire them to read more.
This project is important because all children deserve new and current literature.
Many books, which I have purchased, have come from thrift stores. Having a new, beautiful, and current book will help spark excitement into learning. Thank you for considering our project.
