My Students
My students are K.I.D.S. They are knowledgeable, inquisitive, determined, and successful. The school they attend serves a low-income area. For many students, school is sometimes the most consistent part of their day. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been very consistent. I have great pride in my students. My school is located in a rural area. Recently our district has consolidated schools. We have students from four communities combining to create new grade bands and schools.
We are the hidden gems of the school district.
The students in my class are thirsty for knowledge. They come to school ready to learn. This year the first nine weeks will be distant learning. This won't stop them from wanting to learn. In fact, it has fueled them. They have big goals, ideas, and hearts.
My Project
Closing the academic gap after the effects of the COVID-19 has been more of a challenge. It is a challenge that students are working hard to overcome. Currently, students still need to build foundation skills such as identifying letters and sounds, handwriting, and decoding.
A fluent reader needs a strong foundation for success.
In class one way we help is with phonics practice. Students write dictated words regularly as a way to practice. The Boogie Board Blackboard would replace dry erase boards and markers. This mimics the effects of paper while still being useable. We can use our writing training paper as well. The protection covers and stylus will keep the product safe and useable. In addition, the pencil grips will ensure students are writing comfortably. We want to streamline and maximize our time in class. The interactive alphabet chart assists students in self-checking. Currently, some students are still working on learning all the letters in the alphabet. The poster will allow students to check their progress while the teacher is engaged with another student. The BOB beginning reading books will allow students to practice the decoding skills from their phonics and remediation practice.
These products will help for more efficient progress in closing the learning gap. Students are working hard. It is great to make the process as fun, engaging, and productive as possible.
