My Students

I adore my students and the fact that 23 different languages are spoken at my school, which makes my community diverse and full of energy! Every day presents challenges and rewards that stretch beyond my imagination. My classroom is a dynamic, engaging, and fun environment where my students and I work together to make reading and writing come alive.

We rely on a multi-sensory approach to learning and incorporate many disciplines of study piquing the interests of all students.

In that way, we ensure a safe and respectful classroom space.

My Project

It's been said many times that students have lost (at least) a year of learning due to the pandemic. While that's not true for some, it is true for many. Reading, especially, has become a troublesome area for many of my young students. This project will fund a subscription to a reading program to help my kids catch up to their peers and get back on grade level.

Many of my incoming 5th graders will not have stepped foot into a school since their 3d grade year!

This year will be overwhelming in so many ways and being behind in their basic reading skills is surely only going to set them further behind academically, socially and emotionally. The curriculum is set and while I will provide extra help, 1:1 assistance with tutors, small group support, etc... this subscription with Reading Plus will help my struggling readers in so many more ways. Reading Plus is a computerized reading program that will allow me to offer personalized instruction and ongoing assessments so the kids can learn and grow at their level. Reading Plus will adapt lessons to their individual needs and help me identify their specific struggles on a much deeper level.
