My Project
I have been assigned a new (to me) class: ELA Support. The goal of the class is to take students who are working hard but still not making the grade (or test scores) and turn them into on-grade-level reading, thinking, and writing stars. Our school has set a goal to raise core class passing rates and SBAC test scores for every student--the support class is aimed at helping our most struggling students.
The Brain Pop subscription will help with very engaging resources for reading skills and thinking skills on a variety of topics.
Since I am not a reading specialist, I need proven materials to utilize in my classroom. I have worked with some Brain Pop materials, and the students are excited about those lessons. Since I've always lived by the idea that engagement brings about achievement, this will be an invaluable resource.
The novel sets are so that we can complete novel studies together to boost their confidence and comprehension. I searched very hard for interesting yet accessible novels that I could pair informational/non-fiction text with so we could work on those skills as well. I am very excited about these particular novels, as I believe they will capture my students' attention and create lifelong readers...which is my ultimate goal!
