This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are thrilled to read and learn. They will begin the year at home in August as English language learners. Many come from low-income families from Latin American countries. Most live in apartment buildings and have limited access to school play, school books, and supplies.
During our remote learning time, I wish for my students to receive literacy manipulatives and materials since it will be a challenge for them to get their hands on.
I would like to provide more learning opportunities for them to continue the love for reading, writing, and books. Even more now, parents will have hardships to provide the necessities and basics for their children at home.
My Project
In all the years of my teaching experience, I have observed that all kids love books and reading! They can go anywhere and be anything through the power of books. My kids are thrilled in the classroom when it is time for partner talk while they get to share all the excitement while previewing the Scholastic book club magazines. I would like to provide more learning opportunities for them during the distance learning time that they will be a part of in these unforeseen days.
I hope my students can get their hands on literacy manipulatives during our remote learning.
I wish for all my students to have their own reading belongings filled in a backpack with alphabet and sight word flashcards, story picture lap whiteboard with markers, reusable clear sheet protectors for tracing, and leveled books for early guided reading. These will strengthen their reading abilities and enhance their love for books.
All of my students like to order books from the book club magazine, sadly many do not. Unfortunately for some, their parents do not focus on the power of books. Even more now, parents will have hardships to provide the necessities and basics for their kids. I would like for my students to gain access to as many educational materials as much as possible in order to magnify their probability of future success and provide lifelong learning opportunities.
