Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I school, with 90% of our students on free or reduced-price meal plans. We have many English Language Learner (ELL) students at our school. Over half of my students are ELL students. Our students come from working families and families who speak other languages at home. Some parents are not able to communicate in English with us, but we do have Spanish-speaking translators on site.
Our staff is very caring and committed to providing a nurturing, fun, and engaging classroom for all our students.
We want students to know that we will be there for them and give them as much as we possibly can. One great thing about our school is that we have one-to-one devices, iPads or Chromebook computers. For many students, this is the first time they have been able to use and engage with today's technology.
My Project
My project is for nights of fun with our families with literacy and reading in mind. Students will take home books and board games to get our families involved in their child's education and love of reading. Using board games like, Scrabble Junior, it will bring students and parents together all while learning to read and spell words. Other games I am requesting for students to take home and practice are Sequence and Bilingual BINGO . All these games range for all learning levels from preschool age to 12 years and up. All games that I am requesting will be checked out weekly so that all of my students get a chance to play and practice their literacy skills.. This way any one who may have missed out can still enjoy the games, family time and reading.
Getting our families together for nights of fun reading is essential for our students learning and academic success.
I am also requesting books so that my students can read at home with family members. Many of my students do not have books or small selection of them. I want to make sure that they have plenty of books to practice reading. This will improve their lives as they will be given the opportunity to have these items at home versus not having any. Board games and books are truly a great way to learn, stay engaged and make connections.
