I am a new first grade teacher straight out of college.
If I could buy every necessity my students/classroom needed, I would, but it is unfortunately impossible for me to do so. The school I am teaching at is Title 1 and high poverty. 61% of students (and that number is growing) are on free or reduced lunch. The community is very supportive, but struggle financially. They often wish they could provide for their children but have issues in doing so. Your help (in whatever capacity) is deeply appreciated.
My Project
Every item I ask for, using DonorsChoose, is specifically with my students' needs in mind. The bean bag chairs I have requested will be useful for students to be comfortable while reading in our classroom library. Our classroom library is a great resource that students will use every day as a literacy center and for independent reading. I want students to feel at home in our classroom. With these chairs, they will help students be able to read in comfort without having to sit on the hard vinyl flooring that is in our classroom.
I want my students to be able to focus on opening their imaginations to new stories, not feeling so uncomfortable that they hope "reading time" will be over soon because their back or bottom hurts.
