Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Reading/Science at my school and thanks to DonorsChoose my classroom is full of Science resources. Because of our testing scores, I am over the Reading Lab and we desperately need items to reach our lower reading students. My school has no active PTO, we are a Chapter 1 school, and because of the Hurricane we now have around 30 students from New Orleans. I have a very important job ahead of me and it is going to take some very good resources to help our students get on the reading level where they should be so they will successfully pass the state test. This leads me to the first resource I am asking for, a Reading Level Library. These books help students build their confidence, reading fluency, and comprehension skills. With the activites included in the kit, the students will be able to improve on skills that are very critical to passing the TAKS Test. Nonfiction and Fiction Reading Kits would be great for the kids to actually do activities that would help them to see the differences between the two. Word cards, reading board games, teacher books, and computer disks will all be great resources to help practice new skills, review things that have been taught, help with peer tutoring that will hopefully make them lifelong readers. I hope you see the importance of this proposal and how it will touch so many kids present and future. Thank you for considering this proposal.
