My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, many of my students face challenges in and out of school and in their homes. School is a place of refuge for some, and I want to provide ample opportunities for them to shine where they are in their development. As their teacher, I see a group of wonderful children full of energy and a willingness to jump in and try new things.

They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention.

Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical".

From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on

My Project

Students are learning to organize their desks, notes and learning area. Having the chair back storage will help them locate their assignments, writing tools, etc. quicker which will give us more time to learn. We are learning that there is a place for everything and this will be the "home" to their homework binders (agendas), whiteboards, markers, etc.

Being organized helps organize our minds and our thoughts.

A messy desk can distract the learning and takes time out of our day. We need more time on task and implementing these chair back storage will help us build our organizational skills.
