Help me give my students magazines and a large variety of books to read to spark their interest. Motivation is a key element of developing reading skills.
I teach reading to students with many different backgrounds and ways of thinking. They are the most ingenious, hardworking students that I've ever met, and they come to class working hard and ready to learn more. I love that they want to try reading so many different things.
My students read current events, stories, and anything that they can get their hands on to develop their reading fluency and skills.
One of my students loves to come to class talking about philosophy and mythology because she is excited to talk about it. My class is a place we can talk about science and anything else that will help develop decoding, prosody, and comprehension. Go vocabulary and background knowledge! Inference is one of our biggest goals.
My Project
I chose a wide variety of books because I want my students to be able to pick up and keep a book for longer than 3 weeks, the time that they compete with other students at the online and in-school library. They'll be able to read it, enjoy it, and talk about it with other students.
I am excited to provide to my students reading options with relatable ideas and subjects.
