This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a Title I school. Most of my students come from lower socioeconomic homes. They are very bright and sweet and love to learn. My students are also language delayed. Their learning comes difficult to them due to their speech delays, but they fight on.
I love to find new ways to teach them the skills they are lacking.
We use all 5 senses to learn different skills. I love seeing their faces light up when they get new concepts. Teaching kids with disabilities requires a lot of passion and love. Watching my students' eyes light up when they understand concepts is the most rewarding feeling.
My Project
I always have a book with me! In our 7-8 grade classes my students has made a new tradition. They inspect my books and my progress in them. You see, we have a big problem! My darling children do not like to read! They get overwhelmed by the idea of reading a whole book by themselves. That is why I show them strategies to calm their anxieties. Pick a book that you will enjoy. It should be on your level. Pace yourself and give yourself goals.
That is why they get excited to see that I, myself, follow my own advice.
Another problem is that they do not have a landing library and they do not have easy access to a library, so they do not have books to read.
