Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. They are an eager bunch and enjoy being challenged and learning about the world around them. The majority of my class receives free or reduced-price lunch and their home life is less than desirable. As their teacher this year, I am doing my best to bring happiness, positivity, enrichment, and support into their lives. My students lack the economic means to gain certain experiences, and it is my goal to foster an encouraging environment and to create a chance for them to participate in everyday childhood experiences.
My class is filled with lively students, all very different in their learning abilities, needs, and goals; however, over the past four weeks, we have developed a close-knit classroom.
Friendships have been formed and connections have been made. All who walk into my classroom can see and hear this nurturing environment.
My Project
My class is composed of mostly struggling learners. Many do not have proper resources at home and are struggling to keep up academically in the classroom. We have read the first two books in the series: My Fathers Dragon and Elmer and the Dragon. All of my 25 students were successful with both books. In addition they we engaged and interesetd.
I have never found a series in my teaching career that has captivated a whole class as this series has.
I do not have the financial means to purhcase the next book book in the series and I am thus seeking assitance. I want to gift my class and classes to come with this amazing book. The lesssons and skills that my students gain from these books is amazing. All students are capitivated by the pages and actaully want to read!
