Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

All of my students have an Individual Education Plan to support a deficit in their reading skills. For my 2nd grade students, their reading skills are still missing letter sounds, blending words and phonics. For my 6th graders, their reading skills have 2-year gaps from their grade level. What I love about my students is their desire to learn and read. My students don’t allow their circumstances to bring them down, rather it gives them more drive to succeed.

My Project

For my first, second and 6th grade students, having this gift of books helps to bring them the opportunity for reading growth, open imagination and critical thinking, inquirers of deeper knowledge and character building. My students do not always have the means to have books to read outside from their classrooms. This helps to bring the opportunity to every student to be exposed to different authors, genres and history.

My students will use some of the reading material in a guided reading setting, identifying characters, setting and main idea.

Other students may use in a summative capacity to understand and reflect on other peoples way of life and history and find ways to be a part of the solution.
