My Project

The goal of the project is to engage students in an exploration into a different time and place as we experience a novel from a world far from their own. The Many Assassinations of Samir by Daniel Nayeri is a compelling story of the Silk Road between Afghanistan and Asia; the path many merchants travelled by foot to sell their goods. Crossing the desert on foot while carrying your life on your back is treacherous physically and yet, these characters are fun to read and engage with.

We will delve into the complexities and humor of great literature by interacting with the novel through visual, auditory and kinetic learning.

It is rare to have a novel with an audio version by the author that is fun to listen to. The illustrations will guide the students into each chapter and we will recreate the journey through our perspective by creating a trail map of the journey with the different moments of struggle. The novel contains humor which we will also delve into by coming up with cartoons and comic strips of the main characters' with their personalities. This book will also give us insights into the history of the Silk Road and we will research the moments in History that were compelling and compare those hard times with more recent moments to see the similarities and differences. All in all, this unit will be a cross-curricular journey as well as a literature deep dive. Super Fun and great way to learn about people, places and history.

Mrs. Nasser will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by August 28.
