This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Fun, creative, curious, spontaneous, and ready to learn are a few ways to describe my 26 kindergarten students. I teach in a Title 1 school in Gardena, CA. All of my students are English language learners and receive free breakfast and lunch. What I love the most about my students is that despite their low socioeconomic background, they are always ready to learn and do their best each day and at all times.

We are a team, a school family!

Just like any family, we try our best to stay connected and encourage one another. The desire for the students to do well is a goal that is shared throughout our school and community. I believe that all children, no matter what background they come from, deserve the best education, and are worth to have the latest materials that are out in the real world. I am blessed to have the most amazing individuals in my classroom and have the pleasure to call them my students.

My Project

Our classroom library currently does not have a seating area for students to sit and enjoy their books independently. Our school suggest to have its own library area for the students. My goal is to have two separate areas for students to practice and enjoy reading freely. We had one, but it was too tattered and old, (we're talking more than 10 YEARS OLD) and we do not have funds in the budget to replace it.

Unfortunately, our efforts to clean and maintain the carpets in our library area are no longer working.

It is important that the classroom library has an area, that it is a clean, warm, and welcoming space where students want to visit, read stories and gather to share ideas with classmates. With your help this can be possible!
