Kindergarten is a time for discovery and facing new challenges while learning and interacting with peers. My students come from diverse backgrounds. Some have all of their needs met at home, while others do not. However, they all need tools in the classroom in order to grow and thrive.
Our school tends to not receive additional funding for supplies and special projects, as we are not one of the more high risks schools in the district.
As a new teacher, I am looking to build my classroom's resources to benefit my students.
My Project
It is extremely critical for Kindergarten students to feel welcome in a classroom and excited to learn. This project will help create an atmosphere for students to feel at ease throughout the day. The rug will serve as a focal point of the classroom and will host students during reading and math time, in addition to serving as a hub for class discussions and meetings. Students will also use this particular rug when discussing shapes and colors, one of the content goals in the Kindergarten classroom. The rug also assists with student behavior management, as each student is given a specific spot on the rug to sit for each activity.
