Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need a place where they can sit down with a good book and enjoy it in a peaceful, nurturing, and comfortable environment.
We are a class of emerging readers and writers who face many challenges, but none that we will not be able to overcome, with generous help from compassionate people.
Our school is considered high poverty with over ninety percent of our students qualifying for free or reduced meals. In our dual immersion classroom, we learn to read, write, and most importantly--to think in both English and Spanish.
My Project
I am requesting materials that will transform our run of the mill classroom library into a reading oasis. It is important that the students feel comfortable in their reading environment, so I want to provide them with bean bags, pillows, and chairs to give them the feeling that they are in their own personal reading nook. I also want to create a reading community wall where students can share their favorite books and make recommendations to their peers. I want this space to be truly inspiring and spark an everlasting passion for reading.
Igniting a passion for reading at a young age will stick with these students forever.
I am fortunate to have a classroom of emerging readers that I can introduce to the wonderful world of reading!
