Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am committed to creating a classroom space that centers racial justice and representation, empowering my diverse 4th-grade students to see themselves reflected in the stories they read. By establishing a dedicated reading oasis with a cozy chair, a well-stocked bookshelf, and soft lighting, I aim to provide a welcoming environment where every student feels valued and inspired to explore literature.

This space will highlight books by authors of diverse backgrounds and featuring characters that reflect the rich cultural identities of our students.

The goal is to foster a love of reading that honors their unique experiences and encourages empathy, critical thinking, and self-expression.

In this nurturing oasis, students will engage in both individual and collaborative reading, building a strong classroom community grounded in respect and understanding. By providing access to diverse voices and stories, we hope to improve literacy skills like comprehension and vocabulary while promoting social and emotional growth.

As a Title I campus with a predominantly low-income population, we celebrate the strength in our students’ diversity. This project supports our ongoing commitment to racial equity by creating a safe, inclusive space where all students can thrive academically and personally.
