it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Literacy in the Bronx is in a crisis. Students should be given the opportunity and the space to fall in love with reading. I believe that everyone has the potential to love literature if they find the right book, and if they are given the encouragement to do so. The current reading nook in my classroom is currently under construction. There have been many book donations, all by Black and Brown authors. There is a small rug in the center of it all. Although books are always readily available to them, students are hesitant to sit in the back of the classroom and read independently. I believe this is because the environment is not as appealing or comfortable as it could be which is why we need flex seating options. By giving my students a safe space, a calming place, and a LIT place, the reading culture can be shifted.
