Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten is a year of many new experiences. These students will be entering a real classroom for the first time and with your help they will be reading and have their basic math skills by the time they leave in June.
My students are young and are like little sponges.
They love learning and absorb so much. Our school is very small and was created with working parents in mind. All but 2 of my students are at school from 7:30 to 4:00 each day. Although their days are long, these students are excited and willing to learn new concepts every day.
My Project
I am requesting help in purchasing 3 iPad minis for my students. Every morning we have reading and math activities. The students travel in groups and go to different workstations to practice skills and concepts learned during instruction. One of our centers is a computer center. Unfortunately many of our computers are very old and do not function as they should. Having a center that consisted of up to date technology and amazing learning apps would greatly benefit my students' knowledge of beginning reading, math and technology skills.
I have been provided with 2 iPad minis. They have been amazing. The kids love to work on them and try new apps. Only having two hasn't allowed me to use them during centers. The students have mostly used them as an incentive for good behavior. This year, if we are able to raise enough money for three more, the students will be able to use them on a daily basis during reading and math. We will also be using them during science and other projects.
The use of the iPad minis will provide students extra practice with skills they need or enrichment for those that have already mastered a skill.
By differentiating their practice each student is able to improve their knowledge at their own rate. Most importantly they will be practicing while having fun!
