Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students from my school live in one of the highest inner-city poverty areas in not just New York, but in the entire nation. Many of our students are English language learners who live day-to-day and view coming to this public school as a way to escape their home lives. Some don't even have homes to go to! We try our best to provide students with access to after school programs and technology, but with major budget cuts, we can no longer afford to fund student-centered projects.
My Project
Reading is best when you can snuggle up, relax, get cozy in a nice squishy chair. It's important I motivate my students to really savor the experience of a written word. These days everything is so hurried and rushed so that even our children don't have the time to curl up someplace quiet, lean into a little soft corner, and just sink into another world or level of consciousness. I give them the excuse, I use the time, and I try to help them love the written word as much as our ancestors did. Help me grant them this comfort.
