Reading Like An Artist

My students need the book, Leave Your Sleep, to help them analyze the written poems through the perspectives of art, literature, music, and drama.

My Students

This group of students is very creative. They love to read and write. My kids will be the students leading our country in the future. We speak a lot about being active leaders versus passive people.

My students have developed a love of words and emotions.

They have learned to read books for the purpose the author has written them, not just to read the words. My kids read with understanding, but it is time to move beyond the words!

My Project

With the use of the book, Leave Your Sleep, and the audio CD, my students will integrate the arts into reading and comprehending poetry. As we integrate the artistic dimension of poetry, we will also connect vocabulary to math and science.

Using the book, Leave Your Sleep, my students will be engaged in understanding the the art of being a poet, a musician, an artist, and an actor.

I expect they will be completely engaged, as this curriculum activates all learning modalities. It will allow for creativity within reading comprehension. Engagement in learning activities helps all students want to come to school each day.
