My students need a classroom library that contains various books/audio books to fit the needs of each student's individual reading level for both seasoned and emerging readers. They also need flexible, comfortable seating and book storage.
I teach some amazing 4th-6th grade students with autism. In my classroom we not only emphasize academics but just as importantly incorporate social-emotional, functional and communication learning as well! It takes creativity and lots of “outside the box” thinking in order to ensure that each student's educational and emotional needs are met.
In my classroom, we all learn different but love the same!
Having a small class size allows for a true sense of classroom community. Each student truly cares for one another and are each other's biggest cheerleaders. The students in my class often face challenges that can make learning difficult. My students do not let their deficits bring them down. They have a love for learning and put in great effort with an enthusiastic attitude that makes our class truly special!
My Project
A classroom library that is well stocked with various high-interest level books as well as audio books will ensure that all students regardless of their reading level can access literature at school. Flexible seating and storage will help keep the students comfortable and the space organized.
This classroom library will ensure that every student to has the opportunity to get "carried away" with reading, regardless of their academic weaknesses.
Some of my students are still learning to phonetically sound out words, the audio books will allow them to enjoy the story and characters as well as foster a love for reading at the same time.
