This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At our school we have many English Learners, students with interrupted education and students with learning disabilities that are still learning to read in third through fifth grade. Beginning reader books and decodable texts are mostly written for four through seven year olds so they are small, filled with bright primary colors and topics fitting for young kids.
These books are engaging topics and illustrations for eight through twelve year olds, yet are carefully written to introduce beginning spelling patterns and decodable for early levels of reading.
With detailed fantasy stories and lots of adventure tales, these books will captivate third through fifth graders, while providing them with essential independent application of core reading skills. Many times older readers are stuck with inaccessible books above their reading level or primary books that bore or embarrass them. These books will give them the practice, confidence and interest to finally fall in love with reading!
