My Students

Middle school is commonly seen as a difficult time of life for most teenagers. But for 30 Leadership students in grades 6-8, they spend the year trying to make this school experience a positive one for everyone. This is an elective, and the district does not provide any funds to support this class. Students have to find creative ways to make their projects come to life.

Part of learning about leadership in this class is reading about, listening to, and watching other leaders.

Our middle school is home to approximately 350 bright and talented students. We are a rural school in northern Idaho, and the nearest 4-year college is over 2 hours away.

My Project

I require my middle school leadership students to read at least one book about leadership each semester. The problem is we don't have much of a selection, and they usually read books just to fulfill the requirement. After reading Jon Gordon's books this summer, I'm excited to get copies of these books to share with my students. I'm asking for multiple copies of each title so they can do small book studies, and I will provide class time for them to share and talk about what they've read. Not only will my leadership kids love them, but my 8th graders will also have access to them for their independent reading goals.
