This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school is comprised of many students who are first and second generation immigrants as well as students with disabilities. While our students are inquisitive, eager to learn, and come from very hard-working decent families, unfortunately too many of them have been impacted by the pandemic. Too many of our students are struggling academically and do not read as much they need to. We must try something different to incentivize them to read more.
Help us create excitement and ignite a passion for reading through a book vending machine.
Our hope is that if we "package" books much in the same way that you would a coveted bag of chips or chocolate that students will be motivated to earn tokens for "purchase". Our goal is to create a buzz about earning books from our school vending machine to entice our students to read more often with a variety of high interest books. These books will their own to keep, so that they can start building their own personal libraries with texts that they selected.
As wonderful as technology is especially for students that struggle to read, we need our students to practice reading more themselves than frequently using audio tools to be read to. This is only possible when you have a book in your hands that you want to read. Reading is the springboard to all other learning and it is essential that our students read more frequently to build on other academic skills that include critical analysis and discourse.
We know that future leaders inhabit our classrooms and walk in our halls, please help us unlock their potential by igniting a passion reading through a successful FREE book vending program.
