My students need a set of fiction and nonfiction paired classics for our classroom library, bean bags chairs, headphones, composition books, pencils, and tools that will enhance their reading and writing skills.
I have 22 students in my classroom. 11 boys and 11 girls. They are all special and unique in their own way. Out of the 22 students I have about 10 students that really struggle with Reading Comprehension and that are High Risk for Reading and Math. Out of my 22 students 7 of them are English Language Learners (ELL) and require lots of one on one instruction time.
I have two students that have sickle cell anemia and are often absent and require lots of water breaks.
I have 1 student that is completely deaf in her right ear and 1 student that is partially deaf in both his ears. My students like to do engaging and hands on activities and they love when I incorporate music into their learning. My students also like to read in our class library, around the room and at the computers on MYON.
My Project
Two areas my students are struggling in is reading comprehension and writing. I know that reading is key to all areas of learning so it is very important to me to make sure that my students are reading to their full potential. I also have a lot of English Learners in my class and it is difficult at times modifying lessons and finding books and tools to assist them with reading and writing lessons. I want to build a level of confidence and enjoyment in all my students when it comes to reading and writing. I'm requesting the following as learning tools to help me improve my students reading and writing skills: a set of paired fiction and nonfiction classic books, earphones for reading and listening station, composition books, writing instructional guides and supplies for reading and writing.
In my classroom, we practice reading comprehension, listening, speaking and writing daily using cooperative learning strategies.
The addition of these resources and supplies would give my students a much needed boost of practice in the areas of reading comprehension listening, speaking and writing daily. Students who are confident in their reading and writing which includes listening and speaking abilities will be ready to face the challenges of higher education which will in turn prepare them for future careers.
