My Students

Do you remember when you fell in love with reading? Well I want my students to have that memory in my classroom. Each day my students struggle with early literacy skills in my class because we don't have the supplies or the resources they need to be successful readers.

My Kindergarten Stars are one of a kind.

They are eager explorers wanting to know more about the world around them. They are at the age where everything is interesting and they want to know more about everything. The main question they always ask is why? They are very playful and outgoing and love to come to school and hate for the weekend to come, because they will be away from their friends and teachers, their home away from home. My school is a great place for any child who wants to come to school to attain a great education. It is an arts integrated school which provides art, music and drama to every single student each day. We focus on our DRIVE Values: Determination, Respect, Integrity, Voice, and Engagement. Our school is where not only is the staff happy to come to work every day but our students are happy to be there, too.

My Project

The resources I asked for in my classroom will help every student in my class develop early literacy skills. Also, they will enrich reading for students who are gaining early reading skills or struggling with early reading skills. These resources will also highly benefit my English Language Learners with the acquisition of the English Language. These resources will be available for all students in my class to access during center time. Two of the activities, the sight word recognition and ending sounds, will help my students with learning sight words and ending sounds, which will be very beneficial to all my students learning how to read. These activities allow the students to work in groups up to four students. The listening center, which includes headphones for up to four students allows students to listen and follow along with a read aloud. The read aloud kit includes 16 common read alouds on CD which allows students to follow along and gain confidence to become better readers!

By funding my project for my classroom it will improve my classroom in many ways.

One of the ways is building a strong culture that we are all readers, and that we are all capable of reading. I want all my students to have that memory and understanding of why they love reading and can't wait to read more. My students come from a background where most of them don't see the importance in reading and this project will allow them to love reading as much as I do.
