My Students

We are from a small town in upstate South Carolina, called Clemson. It's the home of an amazing University (and football team!). Many of my students have parents or other family members that work for Clemson University.

We have a very diverse population of students.

Our class alone represents six nationalities. We celebrate our uniqueness and learn from each other. My students are high achievers. Many of them are reading above grade level, and excelling! They love to be challenged, and they love to learn in new and engaging ways.

My Project

There is a fabulous curriculum that I have been using this year called "Rooted in Reading." After the first two weeks, my students and I are hooked! The curriculum uses awesome trade books to teach basic reading skills.

Each week, we use the books to learn comprehension skills, reading strategies, vocabulary, grammar, and phonics.

The skills that go with each book are standards based. I purchased the first two months of books on my own to see if it was a curriculum I was interested in following. The answer is definitely yes! My request contains all the other books that will take us through a year of learning.
