Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 5th grade at a Title I school in California. I am fortunate to work with highly engaged, kind and thoughtful individuals.
All of my students are bilingual in Spanish and English.
Most receive free breakfast and lunch at school and have parents who work multiple jobs to help support their families. Although it is financially challenging for them to provide all of the necessary materials for school, they are involved in their children's education and eager to help the school community.
I love my job because I have the pleasure every day of working with a group of kids who want to better their lives through education. I learn so much from them!
My Project
It feels so good to be back in person and away from screens!
I have noticed that this year, my students are more excited about physical books than ever before.
They keep asking me for more Judy Blume, I Survived, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and "scary" books. I am so thrilled with this and think it may be a direct result of so much time staring at a screen.
My hope is to fill my class library with new titles for my readers to enjoy. Thank you for any help you can offer!
