Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are inquisitive and full of energy. They are at the beginning of their school career and excited about learning to read. My students are Latinx and African American; they live in a low-income urban neighborhood of Watts, Los Angeles.

Although my students arrive with many challenges, nothing holds them back.

They are ready to overcome social injustice, racial inequity, financial, language, and emotional hardships and focus on success! My goal is to close the reading achievement gap and insure that my students receive a rigorous, high quality education.

My Project

Teaching reading is rocket science. In order to teach my students, I need to know their specific needs. I need to assess them and then provide them with the necessary materials that target their areas of strength and need.

Early literacy success is a matter of social justice!

My students need fluency passages, high-frequency word cards, decodable books, learning games, and so much more.

I will use the materials during small group instruction to effectively differentiate for the varying levels. My students will also take the materials home to practice.
