My Project
"Refugee" by Alan Gratz is an exceptionally compelling and relevant novel that I believe will make a profound impact on my students' learning. This book weaves together three distinct stories of young refugees from different time periods and backgrounds, creating a powerful narrative that fosters empathy, compassion, and an understanding of the global refugee crisis.
My goals for incorporating "Refugee" into our curriculum are multi-faceted.
First and foremost, I aim to engage my students in meaningful discussions about the challenges faced by refugees and the resilience they demonstrate in the face of adversity. By reading the novel, my students will develop a deeper appreciation for the diverse experiences and backgrounds of refugees, fostering a more inclusive and compassionate classroom environment.
Furthermore, "Refugee" aligns with our curriculum's focus on historical fiction, allowing students to explore different time periods and geographic regions while improving their reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. The book also provides an excellent opportunity to discuss complex themes such as identity, family, and the human spirit's indomitable nature.
What makes my students special is their eagerness to learn and their capacity for empathy. They come from diverse backgrounds and bring unique perspectives to the classroom. By reading "Refugee," I believe my students will not only expand their knowledge of history and geography but also grow as compassionate global citizens who are inspired to make a difference in the world.
The specific items I'm requesting include multiple copies of "Refugee" by Alan Gratz to ensure that each student has access to their own copy, fostering an individual connection to the book. These books will serve as a valuable resource for our literature circles and class discussions, enabling all students to actively participate in our exploration of this important novel.
