Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
First Grade is a crucial time for students! It is when students start to build a love for school, reading, success and so much more. However, this year has been exceptionally hard for my First Grade students! In March of their Kindergarten year, our Central California rural school district decided it was in the best interest of students, staff, and families to shut down due to the Coronavirus. For our Title I students, school is their one safe-haven for nutrition, socialization, and, of course, education. This closure has caused enormous deficits in their already fragile lives.
My Project
It is so important for students to read while at home, but so many lack books to do this while learning virtually. I have started to create at home learning kits for my students that would provide every one of my 25 students the same materials to learn and grow during this unprecedented time in education.
This project would allow me to give each student 10 books on their reading level.
Giving all of my students a set of books for their homes would allow them to keep growing their skills and love for reading - even from home!
