My students are a diverse group of learners who are excited to come to school and learn each day. Many students have the goal for the new year to become better readers.
My students are currently at various reading levels.
I would like to meet the needs of all of my students in reading and help them to read at or above grade level by the end of the year. To accomplish this, I would like to start a book club for my higher level readers and implement more hands on word study activities for my emergent readers.
My school is a low-income/high poverty school. I would like to provide my students with dependable resources and supplies when they do not have many things they can depend on outside of school. Our school is in a rural area with students coming from lower income families. My school services a large EC population and has 78% of students receiving free or reduced rate lunch. I know by providing the appropriate resources that my diverse learners need, will help all students to reach their goals in reading this new year.
My Project
My students want to become better readers this year and meet their personal reading goals. I have a diverse group of readers and I am asking for six sets of different beginning chapter books to enable every student to make growth in reading this year.
One thing to know about my students is they have a desire to become great readers.
Unfortunately, some students come in with the skills needed to be the best reader they can and others have not been exposed to reading as much. I want each student to have success and feel confident in their reading abilities. In addition to the books I am requesting, I a asking for a classroom set of magnetic letters. I want my students to see that today they can become a reader, and tomorrow a leader.
